Walking past the rooms with outside windows, I was impressed. These rooms seemed small but airy, with sunshine and breezes floating in from outside. The contrast with my dark, depressing, “no view” room was like night and day—literally. I suspect the positive reviews for this hotel are for the rooms with windows; if, however, you have the misfortune of being stuck in one of the rooms with no outside window, you’ll be in a dark room with stale air; a bathroom with a terrible odor and a mysteriously wet floor (possibly from the same source as the foul stench); and hot, fetid, stygian darkness outside your windows. The room was clean; but the cracked, peeling wallpaper and water stains on the floor and ceiling were highlighted by the harsh white of the incandescent overhead light, making the room feel grubbier than it actually was. Honestly, I’ve been to Hong Kong before, so I had very low expectations for my hotel room; even so, I was disappointed.
In short:
+ The location is amazing! A short walk from the TST promenade, museums, the TST subway stop (exit C2), Kowloon Park, and the A21 bus to/from airport. There are plenty of restaurants nearby for breakfast, including a very pleasant diner on the first floor of the A/B block building. (Go down the sketchy stairs just outside the hotel door, turn left into the shopping hall inside the building, and the restaurant is on your right, up some stairs. I think it's called Macau Cafe.)
+ A low floor (2nd floor—or 3rd floor, if you use the American style) = you can easily take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator.
+ Plenty of hot water and good water pressure
+ Air conditioner works well
+ Hair dryer and hot pot in the room
+ Cleaned every day; fresh towels also provided daily
+ Shampoo and body wash provided
+ Flatscreen TV inside room has HDMI input, so if you have the proper adapter, you can hook up your mobile device and watch a movie.
+ “No view” rooms have no exterior light, which is nice if you want to sleep in.
||- “No view” rooms have no exterior light, which makes them a depressing place to return to each day. Also makes it difficult to tell what the weather is.
- “Double” room includes a bed that is definitely NOT a full size bed; possibly a super-single? OK for singles, possibly tight for couples. (It’s ~120 cm wide; check if that will work for your own space preferences!)
- Funky smell in bathroom, and a mysteriously wet floor.
- Walls (or door?) so thin you can hear people in the halls. Fortunately, there aren’t a lot of rooms, so you don’t have too many neighbors.
I would definitely consider staying here again if I could be 100% sure of getting a room with an outside window; otherwise, I’d be too terrified of being stuck in the same miserable oubliette.
