My friend and I had booked a room here for our trip to Hong Kong in early Feb 2019. We notified management of our check in time and this was accepted on our booking. However, when we arrived, they advised that they had cancelled our reservation.
At this point, it is midnight in Hong Kong and we are two girls stranded with no accommodation. The man we dealt with said he had a "very good room" for us to stay in that night, and the next day would place us in another room within the Toronto Motel Group (the group which owns Strawberry Guest House). The "very good room" was dirty and disgusting (see photos attached). There was a bucket on the floor to catch the leak in the ceiling, no windows, stains on the bedding, and we saw a rat. Reading some of the reviews now, it seems that the group may use Strawberry Guest House as a front to sell rooms and then to later cancel your room so that they can shuffle you into some of their shittier rooms.
Unluckily for us, it was late at night and we didn't know anyone in Hong Kong so we had no choice but to accept that room.
The next day, we turn up at the agreed time of midday for the man to show us the room that he had set aside for the rest of our stay. He did not end up showing us the room, giving the reason that they did not have the key because the guest took it with them. He told us to come back at 5pm that day to see the room and decide then if we would want it. It's hard to believe that an accommodation provider would only have one key for their premises.
We opted to leave and not stay with this group for the remainder of our time in Hong Kong.
I felt that they took advantage of our situation as travellers - pitting the fact that we had no connections in Hong Kong against us, to coerce us into accepting the options they presented. They showed complete disrespect of us and of basic courtesy. In all my travels, I have never been so disappointed or angry towards an accommodation provider. If it were possible, I would rate this place no stars. "Terrible" is a generous description for it.
