Upon arriving at the property nobody was there to answer the door. We rang the buzzer several times and then found a phone number to ring and the owner/staff arrived ten minutes later. Instantly we were told to provide more money than our agreed upon price through booking.com. When we decided to agree to pay more (it was late at night with not many options), we had to head to the ATM for more cash. Upon saying this he said don’t worry about it and told us to cancel our booking on Booking.com and he will change our room. He still kept over $15 dollars of what we actually owed. |The room itself was filthy, with empty shampoo bottles in the sink and the toilet lid being non existent. The bed was covered in hair and dirt with sheets that did not appear clean. ||After covering our beds with our towels as we didn’t want to lie on the bed, we tried to turn on the TV in which the plug socket was broken so we could not watch. ||The final straw was watching a rat scurry across the bedroom floor towards our luggage. At this point we decided to leave the property and rang the owner/staff to inform them of our situation. ||When we told him about the rats, he said he will move our room but not offer a refund. Surely, if there are rats in one room there will be rats in all the other rooms? ||We declined his offer and had to find alternative accommodation late at night.

Booked for 4 nights, non refundable and only stayed here for 7 hours. The queue to a sardine like,||jampcked elevetorm was not a welcoming experience||to first time travellers to Hongkong. Chungking Mansion is made of several hostels and Philippine Hostel js one of them. There are only two elevators for a very busy building so wait time to get into the the lift is about 15 minutes. I checked in and was surprise to fid the corridors so narrow where I struggled rolling and fittinf my 20 kg size luggage. I could not close the door of the reception area because the space between I and my bags and the reception desk was pretty small. The front desk service was okay except for a lady behind the front desk personnel lying down playing with her phone. Seeing that was not a good sign.
I entered my room whixh is deluxe double and was frsutratingly agitated at what I have seen. No walk path around the bed as the bed was fitted between the walls of the confort room and the room walls. The only space is between the edge of the bed and our room’s door and entrance to the toilet, about a meter space. So we do not have a space for our luggages except for a very tight space that can accommodate one 20 kilo luggage under the bed. If my husband have to get something out of his luggae, I have to sit on bed as there was no soace. The toilet- very tiny and no shower area apart from the little space from which you literally walk in from the door. When i showered, water dripped into the bedroom floor! A very unpleasant experience indeed!
I booked because the reviews were pretty decent and around 3 stars but this room was nothing to 3 stars, it is jailhouse, about 7 sq meter in size. You get what you pay for in hong Kong. I went to travellodge and never mind about losing my non refundable money and slept soundly the next day. Strongly Not recommended for budget travellers!

We were received in such a rude and uncooperative way that we left the building and looked for something else even though we had a booking for 4 nights. Worst reception experience in 6 months of traveling. Avoid the Chung King Mansion if possible, USA hostel in Mirador Mansion next door offers good value.
